House Commission X Visits UMJ to Discuss Strengthening Higher Education Quality
The University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) received a working visit from Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Rector’s Office of the Civilization Centre Building on Tuesday (7/7/2026). The visit was part of the commission’s oversight function regarding the implementation of higher education, as well as a forum to discuss various inputs for strengthening the quality of education at UMJ.
UMJ Rector Ma’mun Murod highlighted the importance of enhancing the quality of higher education, particularly at private universities (PTS). He presented a number of suggestions concerning institutional development, improving education quality, and policy support that could strengthen the role of private universities in producing excellent human resources.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chair of Commission X DPR RI, Kurniasih Mufidayati, stated that the visit provided an opportunity to engage in direct dialogue with UMJ leadership regarding the various needs for university development. According to her, the inputs gathered will serve as material for consideration in the formulation of future higher education policies.
“Today we are conducting an oversight visit to UMJ as part of Commission X’s duties towards educational institutions. We also had extensive discussions on improving the quality of higher education at UMJ and received various inputs regarding policies that need to be improved in the future,” she said.
On the occasion, Kurniasih expressed appreciation for UMJ’s achievement in attaining ‘excellent’ university status. She assessed that this accomplishment needs to be continuously enhanced through policy support that can strengthen education quality, institutional development, and the welfare of the academic community.
“Students need attention, including support for affordable tuition fees. Likewise, lecturers and campus development must continue to receive attention so that the quality of higher education keeps improving,” she said.
She added that the results of the working visit would be brought to a meeting with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology as a follow-up by Commission X. Additionally, several inputs regarding the new student admission selection process will also serve as recommendation material for the Working Committee (Panja).
Kurniasih expressed hope that the inputs received could become material for improving higher education policies in Indonesia. She emphasised that these policies should favour improving the quality of education, particularly for private universities.
“The hope is that there will be policy improvements for the development and enhancement of higher education quality across Indonesia. Private universities like Muhammadiyah have contributed greatly to national development, so they deserve fairness and equality, including ensuring that all students obtain their right to study at affordable costs,” she said.
Kurniasih also offered encouragement to UMJ students to remain enthusiastic in pursuing their education and preparing themselves to become the nation’s future generation. “To all students of the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta, keep your spirits up in learning and achieving your dreams, because you are Indonesia’s future leaders,” she concluded.
