House Commission X updates data on schools damaged by NTT earthquake
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of House Commission X Lalu Hadrian Irfani said the commission is updating data on schools damaged by the Nusa Tenggara Timur earthquake to ensure post-disaster handling is well targeted.
Lalu, as stated in his written statement received in Jakarta on Friday, explained that the data update is being carried out for all education units, from primary and secondary education levels to higher education.
“We in Commission X are updating data on damage to our schools across all education units. We are also taking stock of the number of students, teachers, and other education personnel affected or who have become victims,” he said.
“Trauma healing is a very important thing to do at this time in order to restore confidence, especially among students and teachers, so that they are ready to carry out the teaching and learning process,” said Lalu.
He added that House Commission X will soon conduct direct inspections of a number of affected education units together with relevant ministries to distribute aid.
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook the NTT region in the early hours of Saturday (15/8). The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency issued a tsunami early warning which was later lifted at 07.30 WIB.
The House’s Post-Disaster Management Task Force (Galapana) inspected the affected areas on Sunday (16/8) to oversee the acceleration of victim handling and the fulfilment of community needs.
