House Commission X Reveals 400 Schools Affected by NTT Earthquake, Proposes Emergency Schools

Deputy Chairman of House Commission X Lalu Hadrian Irfani has received data on schools affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), totalling around 400 schools. He has asked the government to carry out an inventory of the level of damage at these schools.

“As of today, we have received data from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education as well as from the regional government that approximately 400 schools have been affected as of today. This is still developing because we have requested that they be classified as heavily damaged, moderately damaged, and lightly damaged,” said Lalu at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (19/8/2026).

Lalu explained that data collection is ongoing because the effects of the earthquake have also occurred in areas surrounding NTT. The earthquake also had an impact on areas in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

“I think this is still developing because the impact of this earthquake turned out not to be only in East Nusa Tenggara; there are parts of West Nusa Tenggara, especially in Bima Regency and Bima City, that experienced the impact of the NTT earthquake some time ago,” he said.

Lalu encouraged the government to find solutions, including the use of emergency schools if necessary. The number of emergency schools could be adjusted according to the condition of the affected schools.

Alternatively, learning could be consolidated at schools that were not damaged. However, he still recommended that learning be conducted in emergency schools.

“The number of emergency schools will of course be adjusted. If the existing schools can still be used, they will of course be inventoried, but again we recommend that learning take place in emergency schools first. Whether tents are prepared or students are placed in schools that were not affected by the earthquake,” he said.
