Deputy Chair of House Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, My Esti Wijayati, hopes that the education budget in the 2027 Draft State Revenue and Expenditure Budget will be allocated effectively. Esti highlighted that budget allocations must truly reach schools, universities, and teachers.

The main issue is not only how large the overall education budget is, but how much actually reaches schools, universities, teachers, lecturers, students, libraries, and improvements in the quality of learning,” My Esti Wijayati told reporters on Monday (24/8/2026).

My Esti highlighted the budget allocated for primary and secondary education through to higher education. Esti reminded that the 2027 education budget should be directed towards resolving various fundamental education problems.

The education budget has increased, but in the details of the 2027 Draft State Budget, the amount for education programmes has not increased significantly, particularly for primary and secondary education and higher education. The National Library also only received Rp 400 billion,” Esti said.

She then said that past education homework must also be completed. Esti mentioned that school facilities in disaster-affected areas must be prioritised.

Past and current homework that must be resolved next year includes teacher honorariums or salaries, education facilities in many regions including frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged areas, damaged schools, inadequate infrastructure, and rapid resolution for disaster-affected areas, so budget utilisation must be made more effective,” she added.

The PDIP legislator emphasised the importance of the government prioritising improvements to teacher welfare through the 2027 budget. She wants teachers to receive proper welfare.

Education budget policy cannot be oriented only towards physical development, but must also ensure that teachers, as one of the main components of education, receive proper support and welfare,” she added.
