Deputy Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Lalu Hadrian, expressed regret over the alleged sexual harassment case in a group chat involving more than a dozen students at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia (FH UI). Lalu assessed that the case occurred due to the weak implementation of regulations.

“According to me, the phenomenon of alleged sexual violence in university environments, wherever it occurs, including at FH UI, and whatever type of violence it is, shows that this issue is not only about regulation, but especially about the implementation of anti-violence regulations in the field,” Lalu told reporters on Wednesday (15/4/2026).

Lalu stated that the government already has a clear legal framework through Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation No. 55 of 2024. That regulation, he said, comprehensively addresses violence cases on campus.

“However, the proliferation of similar cases indicates a lack of commitment, supervision, and courage from institutions in firmly and transparently addressing violations,” he said.

“Therefore, higher education institutions must ensure that the regulation is truly implemented, not just as a formality,” he added.

This PKB politician emphasised that campuses must activate task forces (satgas). In addition, campuses also need to conduct ongoing education on equality and behavioural boundaries.

“Campuses must activate satgas, provide safe and reliable reporting channels, and guarantee victim protection without stigma,” he stated.

“The main point is consistency in implementing the regulation and handling that is victim-oriented,” he added.

16 Perpetrators Apologise

Chair of the FH UI Student Executive Board, Anandaku Dimas Rumi Chattaristo, said the perpetrators were gathered in a forum held at the DH UI Auditorium. The forum was organised to accommodate victims who wanted to receive direct apologies from the perpetrators.

“Last night, a forum was indeed held at the DH UI Auditorium to accommodate victims who wanted to receive direct apologies from the perpetrators,” Dimas told reporters on Tuesday (14/4).

Dimas said there were 16 perpetrators present. He mentioned that the victims were disappointed and angry about the alleged harassment in the group.

“There were sixteen perpetrators present last night. Regarding the victims’ response, I cannot represent all of their feelings and I respect what they feel, but certainly disappointment and anger must encompass those who became victims,” he said.
