House Commission X Gathers Input on Education Bill in South Sulawesi

Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) gathered aspirations from the regional government and stakeholders in Makassar, South Sulawesi, regarding deliberations on the draft National Education System Bill (RUU Sisdiknas) during a recess visit on Friday.

Lalu Hadrian Irfani, head of the Commission X working visit team, said the commission is currently deliberating the Sisdiknas Bill and the revision of the Statistics Law, so input from regional governments, universities, and various stakeholders is needed to draft regulations that match the needs of the public.

“We want to gain a direct picture of the implementation of various policies, the effectiveness of programmes, budget absorption, and the challenges faced by the regions,” he said.

According to Lalu Hadrian, the results of the working visit will serve as material for evaluation and recommendations in policy and budget deliberations at the DPR RI.

Furthermore, based on the 2024 Community Literacy Development Index (IPLM) published by the National Library of Indonesia, South Sulawesi recorded a score of 88.24 points, the highest in the country.

Nevertheless, Lalu Hadrian stressed that improvements to education quality must continue so that this achievement is accompanied by the emergence of graduates with competence and competitiveness at both national and global levels.

“The results of this visit will become material for evaluation and recommendations in policy and budget deliberations at the DPR RI,” he continued.

Meanwhile, South Sulawesi Deputy Governor Fatmawati Rusdi expressed hope that all aspirations conveyed during the event would be taken into consideration in formulating national policy.

She said the resulting policies are expected to deliver tangible benefits for education development, culture, and the improvement of human resource quality.
