Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives Commission X is committed to further honouring the teaching profession through the Bill on Amendments to Law Number 20 of 2003 on the National Education System (RUU Sisdiknas).

Deputy Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Kurniasih Mufidayati, stated that the teaching profession will be honoured on par with other professions, such as doctors, accountants, or engineers. This, she said, is a logical consequence of categorising teachers as a profession.

“Certainly, if it is already a profession, their welfare must be improved,” said Kurniasih, as per a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

She emphasised that teaching is a noble profession that forms the foundation for the emergence of other professions. Therefore, honouring teachers through the RUU Sisdiknas is an inevitability as a form of appreciation for educators.

In the context of current issues, Kurniasih highlighted the ongoing differences in perceptions regarding the welfare and protection of the teaching profession.

She said that to be recognised as a teacher, it consequently requires professional recognition proven by an educator’s certificate. However, many teachers are still in the process or have not yet obtained certification.

In addition, she hopes that in the future there will no longer be categories of government employees with work agreements (PPPK) that are part-time or honorary PPPK, which have so far been confusing and detrimental to teachers.

According to her, the too many and complicated categories of teachers need to be streamlined to make them clearer and not disadvantage educators.

“I hope that later there will be no more part-time PPPK, honorary PPPK. We are also confused by that, there are so many categories, clusters. Too many,” said Kurniasih.

In addition, she also hopes that the article on teachers as a profession will not be removed in the discussion of the RUU Sisdiknas until the enactment stage.

“We have already accommodated that, insyaallah,” she said.

Kurniasih added that the RUU Sisdiknas will regulate the National Education Development Master Plan (RIP). This is included so that education policies do not change with every change of minister.

“So that whoever the minister is, if there is any adjustment, it remains based on this RIP,” she explained.

Through the RIP, the House of Representatives hopes that the direction of education becomes clearer and more sustainable, not dependent on the personal policies of the current minister. In this way, the direction of national education development is more stable and measurable in the long term.

The RUU Sisdiknas is currently in the drafting stage by Commission X of the House of Representatives. This bill is included in the list of the 2026 priority national legislative programme (prolegnas).
