House Commission X Backs Research Budget Increase for 2027, Suggests Rp 8 Trillion Ideal

Wakil Ketua Komisi X DPR Lalu Hadrian Irfani has welcomed the government’s plan to increase the research budget in 2027 to Rp 4 trillion. Lalu is pushing for an even larger increase than proposed. “He (President Prabowo Subianto) conveyed his commitment that he is very concerned about the development of education, not only primary and secondary education, but also higher education, including research. So the State Secretary has also said that the research budget will be increased by Rp 4 trillion, that is for this year, 2026. For 2027, of course, we encourage not just Rp 4 trillion, but more than Rp 4 trillion,” Lalu told reporters at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/6/2026). The PKB politician believes the research fund for the following year could be increased to Rp 8 trillion. However, he understands that the decision to increase the budget must be adjusted to the government’s fiscal conditions. “Ideally, it would be around Rp 7 to Rp 8 trillion. But again, we have to look at our fiscal conditions. For 2026, Rp 4 trillion is okay, but for 2027 we hope it can increase, even more than Rp 7 to 8 trillion,” he said. Lalu stressed that the increase in the research budget is necessary to advance innovation in science and technology. “It is important because, given the development of science and technology, innovation and research are needed to build this great nation, Indonesia,” he said. Previously, the government stated that the research budget remains a priority amid budget efficiency policies. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said the government would increase research funds by Rp 4 trillion. The research fund was originally Rp 8 trillion and has now become approximately Rp 12 trillion. “In fact, as conveyed in the previous meeting, the research budget has actually been increased,” he said at the National Sarasehan Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (KSTI) at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Senayan, Jakarta, as reported by detikEdu on Saturday (27/6).
