Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - Commission X of the House of Representatives absorbed aspirations regarding policies on the new student admission system (SPMB) and the higher education operational cost standard (SSBOPT) during a specific working visit to South Kalimantan Province.

The working visit was directly led by the Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Dr. Ir. Hatifah Sjaifudian, and other members, namely Once Mekel, M. Nur Purnamasidi, La Tinro La Tunrung, Lita Machfud Arifin, and Bramantyo Suwondo, at the Banjarmasin State Polytechnic (Poliban) in South Kalimantan on Friday.

The Commission X meeting was attended by leaders of higher education institutions in South Kalimantan, officials from Poliban, the Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Banjarmasin, Antasari State Islamic University (UIN) Banjarmasin, Muhammadiyah University of Banjarmasin (UMB), Tanah Laut Polytechnic, and Hasnur Polytechnic.

Chair of Commission X of the House of Representatives, Dr. Ir. Hatifah Sjaifudian, stated that they received a lot of input and aspirations during the working visit in South Kalimantan, particularly regarding the governance of higher education in the context of SPMB and how SSBOPT can be made fairer.

“We absorbed many aspirations earlier from Poliban, ULM, UIN, and other private higher education institutions, so we have a lot of homework now,” she said.

Hatifah stated that there are many problems that need to be resolved to improve the quality of higher education, especially related to SPMB and SSBOPT policies, as well as the management of the Indonesia Smart Card (KIP) for higher education available in the regions, such as in South Kalimantan Province.

“Including in private higher education institutions,” she said.

According to her, all the aspirations from higher education institutions that have been conveyed will certainly receive attention from their side to be discussed further with the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) as the working partner of Commission X.

“We will even form a Special Working Group later to discuss these issues with the government,” she said.

Of course, the purpose of this activity is a step to advance the world of higher education in Indonesia, with the most important thing being how children in this country can continue their education to higher education easily and fairly, including those from underprivileged families.
