House Commission VIII Urges Swift Arrest of Suspect in Three-Year Confinement Case
Wakil Ketua Komisi VIII DPR Abdul Wachid has expressed deep concern over the case of confinement and abuse suffered by a 29-year-old woman identified as YTR. He urged law enforcement to swiftly arrest the perpetrator.
“I am very concerned, as the Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII. Lately, it seems there have been many cases of rape and abuse on such a massive scale. I am asking for this, because frankly, I also do not understand how this could go undetected for three years,” Abdul said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (23 June 2026).
He described the actions of the suspect, identified as Taufik Hidayat or TH (30), as extremely barbaric and called for the heaviest possible punishment.
“This case is utterly barbaric. These people have completely lost their moral compass. The authorities must impose severe sanctions. I urge law enforcement to do just that,” he stated.
Commission VIII of the House of Representatives will coordinate with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) to follow up on the case. The ministry will be summoned in the near future.
“We will soon summon the KPPPA, the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection. This is important. Frankly, the previous case has not yet been resolved, and now there is another problem like this,” he said.
He stressed that the case cannot be ignored and must be thoroughly investigated.
“It seems the perpetrator is truly barbaric, meaning he lacks a sound mental state. This needs to be investigated, his mental condition. He is no longer human. And secondly, the victim is in a pitiful state. It is not only her physical body that is damaged and broken, but her mental state is also shattered,” he added.
He plans to meet the victim and stated that this case serves as a serious alarm for the protection of women in Indonesia.
“This is an alarm that we must immediately silence. This means the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection must carry out outreach activities down to the grassroots and cooperate with law enforcement. We also appeal to families, if something like this happens, to report it immediately,” he said.
The case came to light after YTR was allegedly held captive and abused for approximately three years in a rented room in the Cileunyi area of Bandung Regency. As a result of the alleged violence, the victim suffered severe physical conditions, including impaired vision, injuries to her lips, difficulty speaking, and an inability to walk normally. The family reported the case to the West Java Regional Police on 12 June 2026.
Before she was found, the family claimed they had no knowledge of the victim’s whereabouts for years. According to the family’s account, YTR was even presumed missing for about three years before being discovered in a distressing state.
The case has drawn significant public attention and scrutiny of law enforcement, while the investigation into the whereabouts and alleged involvement of the perpetrator is ongoing. Police have placed Taufik Hidayat (30) on the wanted list (DPO), and the West Java Regional Police are currently pursuing the suspect.
