House Commission VIII and LDII Reject LGBTQ Normalisation

The Indonesian Islamic Propagation Institute (LDII) has affirmed its rejection of the normalisation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) behaviour. The institute considers LGBTQ, which it describes as a product of liberalism, to be contrary to Islamic teachings, the values of Pancasila, and family resilience as the foundation of national life. LDII also encourages educational approaches, religious guidance, and the strengthening of family institutions to prevent the development of deviant sexual behaviour in society. Dody Taufiq Wijaya, Chairman of the LDII Central Board, stated that the family is the primary fortress in shaping the character of the younger generation. “Therefore, various phenomena that we consider to have the potential to erode moral values must be addressed through religious education, moral strengthening, and family assistance,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday. As part of the Muslim community, which adheres firmly to the teachings of the Quran and Hadith as a guide for life, he said LDII rejects all forms of normalisation of LGBTQ behaviour. “However, the response must prioritise preaching, guidance, education, and efforts to return individuals to religious values, not hatred towards individuals,” Dody said. He added that the moral challenges faced by the younger generation today require collaboration from all elements of the nation, from families and educational institutions to community organisations and the government.
