The plan to cut service fees for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) on marketplace platforms is expected to reduce business costs while boosting the competitiveness of local products in the digital market. The policy is also anticipated to provide greater room for MSMEs to improve their profit margins.

Member of House Commission VII, Gandung Pardiman, supports the Ministry of MSMEs’ initiative to encourage four marketplace platforms to slash service fees for MSMEs by up to 50 per cent. According to him, the policy addresses one of the main complaints from businesses selling through digital platforms.

“This is the concrete step we have been waiting for. The 50 per cent service fee cut will be felt directly by MSMEs. Their margins can increase, selling prices can become more competitive, and the competitiveness of our local products will rise,” Gandung told reporters on Wednesday (8/7/2026).

Gandung noted that high administrative fees, commissions, and other service charges have been a burden for MSMEs. Therefore, House Commission VII is urging the government and marketplace operators to build a fairer digital trading ecosystem.

He said the policy will be integrated with the SAPA UMKM platform developed by the Ministry of MSMEs. The platform is designed to connect business actors with various government services, including financing, training, certification, and business legalisation.

“Commission VII asks the Ministry of MSMEs to oversee the implementation so it does not remain mere discourse. We will continue to monitor to ensure these fee reductions are not just temporary, but sustainable,” Gandung said.

He added that the service fee cuts must be accompanied by improved digital literacy and expanded access to financing so that MSMEs can optimally leverage the digital market.

Previously, four marketplace platforms—Shopee, Tokopedia, TikTok Shop, and Lazada—committed to reducing service fees for MSMEs. The government and each platform are currently finalising the system integration process with SAPA UMKM before the policy is implemented.
