Denpasar (ANTARA) - Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives has proposed that Nuanu Creative City provide a dedicated space for the Tabanan Regional Craft Council (Dekranasda) as a solution to optimise the role of local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

“I agree if, for example, there is a room like a special boutique for Dekranasda Tabanan,” said Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo, Deputy Chair of Commission VII and coordinator of the working visit by the Commission’s Working Committee in Tabanan on Friday.

Rahayu explained that the existence of a large-scale creative area such as Nuanu must not stop at merely being a tourist destination or creative space, but must be able to become a new, inclusive engine of economic growth for the surrounding community. This is evident from the improvement of road infrastructure in the area as well as the availability of educational facilities and free art schools for children in nearby villages.

She stressed the importance of integrating the creative area concept with MSME promotion centres, such as combining a regional creative hub with the one-stop shop concept of Smesco. This integration is considered crucial so that business licensing, Home Industry Food Production Certificates, Business Identification Numbers (NIB), halal certification, and product standardisation from the National Standardisation Agency (BSN/SNI) can be accessed in one integrated location.

According to Rahayu, the significant potential of Dekranasda at the provincial and district/city levels, which is generally managed by the wives of regional officials or female regional heads, needs to be synergised continuously with existing creative centres so that it does not operate separately or become disconnected between administrations.

However, she also highlighted the real challenge in managing a permanent exhibition space. “The challenge when organising year-round activities is that there may not be visitors coming every day; that is a marketing challenge that Dekranasda across Indonesia must consider. How to carry out proper marketing so that every foreign and domestic tourist looking for souvenirs is willing to come to Dekranasda because that is where the curation process of the best local crafts and products by the regional government takes place,” said Rahayu.

She added that short festival schemes lasting several weeks to a month often generate much larger turnover due to the enthusiasm of visitors who come specifically for the event. Therefore, synergy is needed between the Tabanan Dekranasda boutique and periodic festival events, supported by an adequate financing ecosystem.

Head of the Bali Provincial Cooperatives and SMEs Office, Tri Arya Dhyana Kubontubuh, agreed with Commission VII’s proposal regarding the provision of a special stall. He expressed hope that the area’s management would provide official space for local products in accordance with the mandate of Government Regulation Number 7 of 2021 concerning the Facilitation, Protection, and Empowerment of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.

“Officially, we hope that there will be special stalls provided for local MSMEs. The role of the district and provincial offices is to carry out curation so that MSMEs are not disadvantaged, and because the location is in Tabanan, of course Tabanan’s main local products should be displayed first as a showcase,” said Tri Arya.

Chief Executive Officer of Nuanu Creative City, Lev Kroll, said that the collaboration opportunity is very open to make the area a creative centre that embraces local business actors and artists. “Our hope going forward is that we continue to strive to support MSMEs by providing platforms, such as galleries for artists and local craft makers in Bali. We strongly believe in collaboration around Nuanu and Tabanan,” said Lev Kroll.

He said that there are currently 668 Bali-based MSMEs actively registered in Nuanu’s procurement system, with 143 of them located in Tabanan Regency and more than 370 being individual business operators. In 2025, the value of Nuanu’s contract transactions with local MSMEs reached Rp27 billion, covering the construction, landscaping, catering, traditional arts, and daily operations sectors.
