House Commission VII Hopes Tourism Becomes Axis for Regional Economic Growth
Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Member of the House of Representatives Commission VII, Siti Mukaromah, hopes that the tourism sector will become the axis for regional economic improvement through existing potentials such as natural resources, culture, MSMEs, transportation, and the creative economy.
According to her, during the specific working visit of Commission VII of the House of Representatives to Tangerang City, Banten, on Monday, the tourism sector can become one of the main instruments in promoting economic equality.
Various tourism potentials, from man-made destinations, religious tourism, to culinary, are considered capable of becoming a new economic force if managed optimally.
For example, the tourism ecosystem in Tangerang City, which has a strategic position as a supporting area for the Capital.
In her view, the proximity of Tangerang City to the government centre as well as the presence of vital objects such as Soekarno-Hatta Airport become great potentials that must be utilised to encourage regional economic growth.
“Tangerang City, as the closest city to the capital, has a strategic position. We hope that this region can feel progress and prosperity evenly for the community,” said Siti.
She also highlighted the importance of building an integrated tourism ecosystem that includes synergy between the central government, local government, MSME actors, the creative sector, to infrastructure support.
“Tourism cannot stand alone. There is a connection with MSMEs, youth creativity, culture, to infrastructure. Everything must be integrated in a strong synergy, with good coordination with the Ministry of Tourism,” she explained.
In addition, she also encouraged local governments to be more proactive in exploring and developing the potentials they have.
The role of regional heads to related agencies is considered key in mobilising this sector.
“Regional heads to the Tourism Office must be at the forefront in utilising existing potentials. Public awareness is also important, because tourism is the door to economic growth,” she added.
Tangerang City Mayor Sachrudin added that in recent years, tourism in Tangerang City has shown positive development.
Tangerang City is transforming from an industrial city into an urban tourism destination that is increasingly recognised in the Jabodetabek area.
Tourist visits to Tangerang City show a positive trend. In 2025, it was recorded to reach 13.9 million visits, an increase of around 1.4 million visits compared to 2024.
This increase also impacts the regional own-source revenue (PAD) of the tourism sector, especially from hotel, restaurant, and entertainment taxes, which reached Rp528 billion in 2025.
“The tourism sector is not just about presenting destinations but also becoming an economic driver as well as a means of preserving culture and regional identity. Planned and sustainable tourism development provides a significant impact on increasing Tangerang City’s PAD,” he said.
