House Commission VII Agrees Additional BSN Budget to Strengthen MSME Certification

Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI) has agreed to an additional budget for the National Standardisation Agency (BSN) to expand its programme for Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification of micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) products, increasing coverage from just 105 MSMEs to 1,050.

“Commission VII requests BSN to increase the scope of SNI guidance and certification for MSMEs to a minimum of one thousand SNI certifications,” said Deputy Chair of Commission VII DPR-RI Chusnunia Chalim in Jakarta on Monday, while reading the conclusions of a hearing with BSN.

During the session, Commission VII and BSN agreed to the budget increase for SNI certification for MSME operators, raising the initial proposal of 105 SNI certifications to 1,050.

Chusnunia stated the increase was made to deliver greater public benefit, considering that 73 per cent of BSN’s budget, which totals over Rp217 billion, is largely allocated to management. To that end, Commission VII urged BSN to pay greater attention to SNI certification for MSMEs, which currently remains minimal.

“The additional budget for 2027 should be more focused on programmes that provide measurable benefits for industry and the strengthening of MSME certification,” she said.

Meanwhile, BSN Head Donny Purnomo Januardhi Effyandono stated that if BSN’s budget for MSME SNI certification was insufficient, his agency proposed increasing certifications from 105 to 1,050 and outreach from 1,110 to 20,000 MSMEs, with a total budget of Rp82 billion, up from just over Rp4 billion previously.

Donny added that when combined with the previous indicative ceiling of Rp217.9 billion, plus the additional Rp82.1 billion, BSN’s proposed budget for 2027 would reach Rp300 billion. “We will strive to ensure that 1,050 MSMEs can be certified per year,” he said.
