House Commission VI Appreciates Progress on Temporary Housing for Aceh Flood Victims

House Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) conducted a working visit to Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province, to inspect the construction of temporary housing (Huntara) for communities affected by flooding and to evaluate the contribution of state-owned construction enterprises (BUMN Karya) in supporting accelerated post-disaster recovery. The field inspection aimed to ensure the construction of the Huntara and its supporting facilities met the community’s needs in terms of construction quality, facility completeness, and project timeliness. During the visit, the Commission VI delegation visited the Huntara site that had been built in Aceh Tamiang. The evaluation was carried out as part of the DPR’s oversight function regarding the implementation of government programmes to accelerate the provision of housing for residents who lost their homes due to the floods. Commission VI member Subardi appreciated the government’s efforts in handling the flood victims in Aceh Tamiang Regency through the provision of Huntara, which he deemed adequate and meeting the basic needs of the survivors. ‘I think the government’s role in easing the burden of the victims is extraordinary. This is already suitable for family life, the facilities are complete, there is sanitation, there is drinking water. Although it is a temporary building, it is quite adequate and comfortable, far better than living in a tent,’ he said after inspecting the Huntara on Wednesday (22/7). Director of Operations I of PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero), Muhammad Toha Fauzi, stated that the company is committed to supporting various strategic government programmes, including accelerating disaster response through quality infrastructure development. He noted that the construction of the Huntara is part of an effort to provide facilities that are not only habitable but also deliver real benefits to the community during the recovery period. The construction of the Huntara is the result of a collaboration between Danantara Indonesia, the Ministry of SOEs, the local government, and state-owned construction enterprises to accelerate the post-disaster rehabilitation process in Aceh. A total of 92 units have been built in Aceh Tamiang Regency, with an additional 146 units completed in Pidie Regency.
