House Commission VI Appreciates Progress on Temporary Housing for Aceh Flood Victims
Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) carried out a recess working visit to Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province, to inspect directly the construction of temporary housing (Huntara) for communities affected by flooding, while also evaluating the contribution of state-owned construction firms (BUMN Karya) in supporting accelerated post-disaster recovery.
The field inspection was conducted to ensure that the construction of the Huntara and its supporting facilities meets the needs of the community, in terms of construction quality, completeness of facilities, and timeliness of project execution.
During the visit, the Commission VI delegation toured the Huntara site built in Aceh Tamiang. The evaluation formed part of the House’s oversight function over the implementation of government programmes to accelerate the provision of housing for residents who lost their homes to the floods.
Commission VI member Subardi commended the government’s steps in assisting flood victims in Aceh Tamiang Regency through the provision of Huntara, which he deemed fit for purpose and meeting the basic needs of survivors. He conveyed the appreciation after inspecting the Huntara during the recess working visit on Wednesday (22/7).
“In my view, the government’s role in easing the burden on the victims is extraordinary. This is fit for family life, the facilities are complete, with sanitation and drinking water. Although these are temporary buildings, they are adequate and comfortable — far better than living in tents,” he said.
Director of Operations I at PT Brantas Abipraya (Persero), Muhammad Toha Fauzi, said the company is committed to supporting various strategic government programmes, including accelerating disaster relief through the construction of quality infrastructure.
According to him, the construction of the Huntara is part of efforts to provide facilities that are not only habitable but also deliver tangible benefits to the community during the recovery period.
“The provision of Huntara is part of our commitment to supporting post-disaster recovery. We strive to ensure that every infrastructure we build is of good quality, completed on time, and beneficial to the community,” he said.
The Huntara construction resulted from collaboration between Danantara Indonesia, BP BUMN, regional government, and the BUMN Karya construction firms to accelerate post-disaster rehabilitation in Aceh. The project was executed with an emphasis on quality, punctuality, and added value for the community.
As part of the programme, 92 Huntara units have been built in Aceh Tamiang Regency. In addition, the construction of a further 146 Huntara units has been completed in Pidie Regency to support the temporary housing needs of disaster-affected communities.
Going forward, the company stated it will continue to strengthen its contribution to national infrastructure development through the application of innovation, Good Corporate Governance (GCG), and a culture of construction safety.
Muhammad Toha Fauzi affirmed that every project undertaken is expected not only to meet current development needs but also to provide long-term benefits for the community and support inclusive and sustainable development.
