House Commission V Urges Ministries to Issue Regulation on 8% Ride-Hailing Commission Cut
Wakil Ketua Komisi V DPR RI, Syaiful Huda, has urged the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation to swiftly issue a technical regulation regarding the implementation of an 8 per cent commission cut for online motorcycle taxi (ojol) services. He stressed the need for this interim measure before a long-term legal framework, such as a law, is established.
Speaking at a discussion event at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, Huda said the regulation is necessary to prevent actions that could harm drivers. ‘We want to ensure that during this transition period before a permanent regulation is realised, Komdigi and the Ministry of Transportation immediately issue a technical regulation to safeguard what has been decided politically by the President,’ he said.
He added that the regulation must ensure there are no hidden deductions and that the platform’s algorithm can be properly supervised. Huda further explained that Commission V is currently deliberating the revision of the Traffic and Road Transportation Law (UU LLAJ), which will accommodate the relationship between drivers and ride-hailing application providers.
‘Is the DPR planning to initiate a law to strengthen the relationship between ojol drivers and applicators? I can answer that in Commission V, within the revision of the UU LLAJ, we are including issues related to online motorcycle taxis,’ he stated. The revision is expected to contain around 14 to 16 articles specifically regulating ride-hailing services, incorporating various policies resulting from discussions between the DPR and ride-hailing stakeholders.
