House Commission V Urges KNKT to Investigate Bekasi Train Accident
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives has urged the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to promptly carry out a comprehensive investigation into the train accident involving a KRL commuter train and the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek in the Bekasi area, in order to uncover the causes and strengthen the railway safety system.
Commission V member Danang Wicaksana Sulistya emphasised that a comprehensive investigation is necessary to ensure the identification of incident factors, including technical aspects, human error, and issues at level crossings.
“A further investigation by KNKT is needed to determine in detail the cause of this accident, whether it is a technical factor, human error, or a problem at the crossing,” he stated in his comments in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He revealed that initial information indicates the accident was related to an incident at level crossing JPL 85, which is suspected to have involved an electric taxi vehicle, triggering a chain of events leading to the train collision.
According to Danang, this event underscores the need to strengthen supervision and security systems at vulnerable points, particularly level crossings that frequently become sources of transportation accidents.
Commission V of the House of Representatives, he said, will continue to monitor the investigation process and encourage train operators and transportation authorities to improve safety standards comprehensively.
These efforts include evaluating crossing security systems, from the implementation of technology and enhancing the role of field officers to strengthening public discipline in complying with traffic rules on railway lines.
Danang assessed that safety system improvements must be based on investigation results so that the measures taken are targeted and sustainable.
“We hope that the KNKT’s investigation results can serve as the basis for improving the railway transportation safety system in Indonesia,” he said.
This push for accelerated investigation is part of efforts to prevent similar accidents from recurring, while ensuring passenger safety as the top priority in public transportation services.
