House Commission V Urges Government to Offer 20 Per Cent Discount on Mudik Flight Tickets
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives Commission V Syaiful Huda has urged the Ministry of Transport to resume lobbying the Ministry of Finance for a 20 per cent discount on airline tickets to ease the burden of Lebaran 2026 homecoming travel.
He noted that the remaining time before the peak of the Lebaran 2026 mudik exodus should be used to strengthen inter-ministerial coordination. He expressed hope that the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Finance could sit down together to deliver a pleasant surprise for the public in the form of additional airfare discount incentives.
“While there is still time, we hope the two ministries can sit down together and deliver a more optimal policy for homecoming travellers,” Huda said in Jakarta on Monday.
He explained that there are four components of aviation costs entirely under the authority of the Ministry of Finance, namely Value Added Tax (VAT) on tickets, airport service charges, aviation fuel costs, and aircraft spare parts components.
Commission V of the House of Representatives hopes that through further coordination between the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Finance, the scale of airline ticket discounts can be increased to further ease the burden on those travelling home for the upcoming Lebaran 2026.
Previously, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated on 10 February 2026 that the government had launched a first-quarter economic stimulus programme to facilitate public mobility and maintain purchasing power.
The programme includes, among other measures, a 17-18 per cent discount on economy class airline tickets for the period of 14-29 March 2026.
The policy applies to ticket purchases from 10 February to 29 March 2026.
