House Commission IX Urges New BGN Head to Resolve Free Nutritious Meal Programme Issues

Deputy Chairman of House Commission IX, Charles Honoris, has said he respects the resignation of National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Head Nanik Sudaryati Deyang due to health reasons. Honoris also provided several notes regarding her future successor. “First, I respect Ibu Nanik’s decision to resign for health reasons. I pray that she receives smooth treatment and recovers soon,” Honoris told reporters on Wednesday (22/7/2026). Honoris expressed hope that the change in leadership at BGN would also be a step towards comprehensive improvement of the government’s strategic programme. He wants the new BGN leadership to bring positive policies. “However, the change of leadership should not be seen merely as a change of figure. What is far more important is the momentum to carry out comprehensive improvements to the governance of the Free Nutritious Meal programme,” he said. Honoris then outlined several notes for Nanik’s successor, touching on cases of mass food poisoning, governance, and potential conflicts of interest. “So far, we have seen various problems in the implementation of MBG, ranging from mass food poisoning cases, governance issues, to allegations of conflicts of interest,” Honoris stated. “Therefore, whoever leads BGN in the future must be brave enough to evaluate and redesign the programme so that it is better targeted, safer, more accountable, and in line with the state’s fiscal capacity,” he added. Honoris mentioned that the House Commission IX will continue to oversee BGN’s performance. He hopes the MBG programme will bring benefits to the people. “We in Commission IX will certainly continue to carry out our oversight function to ensure that this leadership change is the beginning of improvement, not just a change of position. The most important thing is not who leads, but whether the people truly benefit from this programme in a safe, effective, and sustainable manner,” he stated. Previously, Nanik S Deyang resigned from her position as Head of the National Nutrition Agency. The resignation was also to allow her to undergo treatment for heart disease. “Today, 22 July 2026, Ibu Nanik Deyang bid farewell to President Prabowo to undergo heart treatment. She also resigned as Head of the National Nutrition Agency,” said Special Assistant to the President for Communication and Policy, Dirgayuza Setiawan, on his Instagram account on Wednesday (22/7).
