House Commission IX Urges New BGN Head Sudaryono to Overhaul Free Nutritious Meal Programme Governance
Deputy Chairman of House Commission IX Charles Honoris hopes the new leadership of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) under Sudaryono can accelerate comprehensive governance reforms of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. This step is deemed crucial to promptly address various issues arising during implementation and ensure the benefits are optimally felt by the public. President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated Sudaryono as Head of BGN on Wednesday (22/7/2026). Sudaryono, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, replaces Nanik S. Deyang, who resigned from the position. “My hope is that under his leadership, BGN can accelerate the comprehensive reform of the MBG programme’s governance. This programme has very noble objectives, but the various problems that emerged during its execution must serve as lessons for real improvement,” Charles stated when contacted on Wednesday (22/7). Charles emphasised that reforms must focus on several crucial aspects, particularly food safety. He stressed that food poisoning cases that occurred during the programme’s implementation must not be repeated in the future. Beyond food safety, other priorities include enhancing transparency and accountability in budget management. Charles also highlighted the importance of resolving obstacles faced by implementing partners on the ground to ensure the programme is well-targeted and has strong fiscal sustainability. House Commission IX is committed to continuously overseeing the MBG programme through its supervisory function. Charles expressed the House’s readiness to synergise with the new BGN Head for the effectiveness of the national programme’s implementation. “We in Commission IX will certainly continue to carry out our supervisory function and are ready to cooperate with the new BGN Head so that the Free Nutritious Meal Programme can run better and truly benefit the community,” he concluded.
