The process of extinguishing the fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) in Mauk, Tangerang Regency, is still ongoing. Deputy Chairman of House Commission IX, Yahya Zaini, has urged the government to continuously monitor the health conditions of residents living near the TPA, including providing psychological support.

“The fire at the Jatiwaringin TPA in Tangerang demonstrates the importance of Indonesia building a health security system against environmental risks,” Yahya Zaini told reporters on Wednesday (8/7/2026).

Yahya stated that the government must monitor the health conditions of residents around the TPA, even after the fire is completely extinguished. He highlighted the potential for public health problems to arise later as a result of the incident.

“Handling the health impacts caused by environmental factors is not enough to be done only when the event occurs. The government must continue to monitor residents’ health for a period even after the fire is out,” said the Golkar Party legislator.

“Currently, only Acute Respiratory Infections (ISPA) may have been detected, but other health problems could emerge later, so the government must continue to monitor the health developments of residents around the burned TPA site,” he added.

He also recommended psychological assistance for the affected residents. Yahya noted that environmental disasters also impact mental health.

“Including the psycho-social impacts on the affected community. Psychological assistance is needed as part of trauma healing because environmental disasters can also affect mental health,” he said.

Yahya further requested that the government develop a post-disaster health monitoring system for communities affected by the TPA fire. He pointed out that health interventions generally cease once the emergency status is declared over, even though the effects can have long-term health consequences.

“Continuous health monitoring is important to ensure that the community receives adequate services and to serve as a basis for formulating more accurate environmental health policies,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the firefighting operation at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA) is still ongoing on its ninth day. Currently, 158 affected residents have been evacuated.

Head of Waste Management, Hazardous Waste, and Pollution Control, Ruli Riatno, said the evacuees came from two villages, Tanjakan Mekar and Rajeg Mulya.

“Evacuation data as of the post board, Tuesday, 7 July. Tanjakan Mekar Village: 44 families or 144 people. Rajeg Mulya Village: 7 families or 14 people. Total 51 families or 158 people,” Ruli said on Tuesday (7/7).
