House Commission IX Proposes WFH for Private Sector Every Wednesday: Weekends Disrupt Productivity
Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission IX, Yahya Zaini, supports the work-from-home (WFH) policy for the private sector. Yahya believes that the WFH policy can be an effective step for energy efficiency while reducing workers’ expenditure burdens.
“I support the government’s WFH policy aimed at achieving energy efficiency. With WFH, employees and workers can save on energy and financial usage,” Yahya told reporters on Thursday (2/3/2026).
Nevertheless, Yahya emphasised that the implementation of WFH must not reduce work productivity. According to him, the flexible work system should encourage improved performance and adaptation to technology.
“But do not forget that WFH should not reduce work productivity. On the contrary, WFH must increase productivity, be adaptive to technology, and be sustainable,” he stated.
“In addition to energy savings in offices and fuel users, WFH will also save finances. Because it will reduce daily fuel expenditure costs,” he added.
Yahya proposed Wednesday as the ideal day for implementing WFH in the private sector. This is because Wednesday is in the middle of the week.
“In my opinion, the ideal day for WFH is Wednesday because it is mid-week. If at the beginning or end of the week, it will disrupt productivity, because it is close to holidays,” he explained.
Furthermore, Yahya emphasised the importance of strict supervision in the implementation of WFH. According to him, this is to ensure that it is not considered a holiday by workers.
“Do not let WFH be considered a holiday or reduce work productivity when the main goal is to reduce energy usage,” he said.
This Golkar Party politician also reminded companies to continue fulfilling workers’ rights even when implementing WFH. Including, he said, matters related to salaries and allowances.
“With WFH, it does not reduce workers’ rights to receive salaries and allowances. Do not let companies cut workers’ salaries and allowances even though there is WFH. That must be ensured by the government and strictly supervised to avoid ‘naughty’ companies,” he stated.
Previously, the government has decided on a work-from-home scheme or WFH for private sector employees. The government encourages companies to provide WFH one day per week.
“It is encouraged to implement WFH for workers or labourers for one working day in one week according to the company’s conditions and the WFH working hours are regulated by the company,” said Minister of Manpower Yassierli in a press conference.
Yassierli said the encouragement for WFH in the private sector also does not reduce annual leave and monthly salaries. The technical implementation of WFH for private sector employees will be the authority of each company.
“The implementation of WFH does not reduce annual leave,” he said.
