House Commission IX Opens Possibility of Summoning BGN, Explains Urgency of Electric Motorcycle Procurement

The plan by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to procure tens of thousands of electric motorcycles to support the operations of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme has drawn public attention. A member of the House of Representatives’ Commission IX from the PKB faction, Neng Eem Marhamah Zulfa, stated that her side is open to the option of summoning BGN to provide clarification on the urgency of procuring those electric motorcycles. “The public has the right to know the origins of the procurement, its purpose, and the source of the funding. To obtain complete and accurate information, confirmation with BGN is the right step so that the chronology is clear. Do not let prolonged polemics arise due to a lack of openness,” said Neng Eem in her statement on Thursday, 9 April 2026. Neng Eem assessed that clarity of information is crucial to stem public speculation that could erode the credibility of this national strategic programme. She emphasised that every rupiah allocated in the MBG programme must be accountable to the public. “The MBG programme is a priority of President Prabowo that must be guarded together to avoid negative spotlight that will erode the credibility and quality of the programme,” she said. Neng Eem reminded that transparency is not just about opening data, but ensuring that the public understands the rationale behind the procurement policy. Given the large budget involved, public oversight becomes an important instrument to prevent inefficiency or potential misuse of state funds. “This MBG programme concerns the fulfilment of nutrition for the wider community. Budget openness is the key so that the public can help ensure that this programme runs on target. BGN certainly has a planning basis, but that must be conveyed openly so as not to trigger distrust,” stressed the legislator from West Java. Previously reported, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Dadan Hindayana revealed the reason for procuring 21,801 units of electric motorcycles priced at Rp42 million for the Heads of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG). He said that the electric motorcycles are to support operational needs in areas with difficult transportation access or hard-to-reach locations. “Yes, this programme will reach areas that will be very difficult. Reaching villages and areas that can only be accessed by motorcycle. That is to support operations,” said Dadan to reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta, quoted on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
