House Commission IX Backs Plan to Donate BGN Electric Motorcycles to Honorary Teachers

Wakil Ketua Komisi IX DPR Yahya Zaini has expressed support for a plan to donate electric motorcycles, previously purchased for the National Nutrition Agency’s (BGN) Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG), to honorary teachers across various regions. However, his backing comes with strong criticism of the procurement process, which he considers problematic. Yahya stated that donating the vehicles is a solution to ensure assets bought with state funds still benefit the public. “During a meeting with Commission IX, Ibu Arumsari said the electric motorcycles would be donated to honorary teachers in the regions. And I agree with that plan,” Yahya said in an official statement cited on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.

Despite this, the Golkar Party politician admitted he had disagreed with the procurement of electric motorcycles to support SPPG operations from the outset. He argued the vehicles did not meet the needs of the kitchen managers for the free nutritious meal programme (MBG). “They do not require mobility in their work,” Yahya remarked. He also highlighted the lack of information received by Commission IX regarding the procurement, noting that the DPR never received reports on the purchase, which hampered its oversight function over the BGN’s budget use.

Yahya further criticised the selection of the supplying company, stating that the winning firm lacked a professional dealer network and adequate after-sales service facilities. “The procurement company was unprofessional, it had no dealers and no service centres,” he said. He even alluded to allegations of price mark-ups in the procurement of the electric motorcycles. “What is most regrettable is that the price was marked up,” he stated. Tempo attempted to seek confirmation from BGN Spokesperson and Deputy Head Agustina Arumsari regarding the plan, but she had not responded by the time this report was filed. At a press conference at the BGN office in Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 18 June 2026, when asked by journalists about the electric motorcycles, Arum provided little comment. She merely stated that all goods procured in 2025 were being reviewed one by one and would be utilised to their maximum potential. “What the items are and so forth, that is still being discussed with colleagues, especially as it is still in process at the prosecutor’s office,” Arum said. She stressed that the BGN does not wish to repeat past mistakes, particularly regarding the procurement of goods or spending that is not beneficial. “This is also a form of budget efficiency,” she added.
