Deputy Chairman of House Commission IX Charles Honoris has responded to National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and his staff resolving 97 labour cases worth hundreds of billions of rupiah. Charles said the achievement deserves appreciation. “I certainly appreciate every effort by law enforcement officers who successfully help resolve employment issues and ensure workers’ rights are received. If the Police Employment Desk has helped settle dozens of cases with workers’ rights valued at hundreds of billions of rupiah, that is certainly a commendable step,” Charles said when contacted on Sunday (26/7/2026). However, Charles views that worker protection must not depend on law enforcement. He urged the government to be present earlier in looking after workers. “However, protection for workers should not rely solely on law enforcement after problems have occurred. What is far more important is ensuring the state is present from the outset through policies that favour workers,” he said. According to him, the government must ensure workers’ rights are fulfilled. In addition, he said, violations of workers’ rights must also be dealt with firmly. “The government must ensure workers’ rights are fulfilled, supervision is strengthened, industrial relations dispute resolution runs quickly, and violations of workers’ rights are dealt with firmly,” he said. The PDI-P central board chairman encouraged that in the future the government and the National Police can synergise to prevent cases or disputes that burden workers. He pushed for better regulation and oversight. “Going forward, I hope the synergy between the National Police, the Manpower Ministry, and all stakeholders continues to be strengthened so that employment issues are not only resolved after disputes arise, but are also prevented from the start through better regulation and supervision,” he said. Previously, President of the Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea thanked National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo for continuously defending workers. He said the Police Employment Desk has resolved many labour cases worth hundreds of billions of rupiah. “Thank you also to the National Police Chief for the Employment Desk which has successfully resolved nearly 97 cases with a nominal value of hundreds of billions that can be delivered to the entitled workers,” Andi Gani said during the inauguration of the KBPBI secretariat in Tebet, South Jakarta, on Friday (24/7). For this reason, he hopes the Police Employment Desk can be maximised down to remote areas. He hopes the desk can benefit all workers in Indonesia. “And we hope the National Police Chief will also maximise the Employment Desk in the regions to serve our fellow trade union members,” he hoped.
