Member of House of Representatives Commission IV Firman Soebagyo has declared that national rice stocks are in a secure condition, particularly ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. He made the statement following an impromptu inspection by Commission IV at Perum Bulog warehouses in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).

During the field visit to Bulog warehouses in the DIY area, he said storage capacity was observed to be well-stocked and supply levels were relatively stable. The inspection findings, Soebagyo noted, were consistent with government reports regarding the national rice reserve position.

"We from Commission IV extend our appreciation to the government. In line with reports from the Minister of Agriculture and Bulog, national rice stocks currently stand at approximately 3.32 million tonnes. This is the highest figure in history and represents crucial capital for meeting demand ahead of Ramadan and Lebaran," Firman told Parlementaria following the working visit agenda of House Commission IV at the Bulog Trihajo Warehouse in Wates, Kulon Progo Regency, DI Yogyakarta, on Thursday 12 February 2026.

The DIY region, supported by agricultural centres such as Kulon Progo, Sleman, Bantul and Gunungkidul, has a strong supply base at both regional and national levels. Official government data recorded that the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) managed by Bulog through to the end of 2025 was estimated to have reached more than 3 million tonnes — the highest level since the era of Indonesian independence without major import contributions. Total estimated national rice stocks reached approximately 12.5 million tonnes, sufficient to meet consumption needs for several months ahead.

Nevertheless, House Commission IV reminded the government to anticipate potential weather anomalies that could trigger flooding, disrupt distribution and increase the risk of harvest failure. Soebagyo stated that the government needs to prepare risk mitigation measures for extreme weather in the coming weeks, as heavy rainfall and flooding could directly impact food distribution routes and transport access if left unaddressed.

"What needs to be anticipated is the possibility of weather anomalies ahead of Ramadan. If flooding occurs and road access is disrupted, distribution will be hampered and this could affect prices on the ground," he said.

Beyond food distribution, the Golkar Party cadre also highlighted the knock-on effects on production. Based on his observations, flooding in agricultural areas risks causing harvest failures and production declines, which could in turn complicate Bulog's grain procurement during the post-Lebaran period.

From the results of the inspection in DIY, he assessed that no critical issues were found regarding stock availability. Nonetheless, he affirmed that precautionary notes concerning weather and distribution factors would remain a focus of House Commission IV's deliberations on national food policy going forward, particularly to ensure supply remains secure through Eid al-Fitr.
