Jakarta – A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III, Soedeson Tandra, has urged the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) to remain solid in supporting the government’s efforts to eradicate corruption. He made the statement in response to recent police searches at several locations allegedly linked to a case of money laundering and coal corruption. “We also ask the TNI-Polri to be solid in supporting the government’s programme, in this case, eradicating corruption,” Tandra said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday. Tandra explained that energy security is a national priority for the government, therefore all parties must support the government’s efforts to combat corruption. “We all know that corruption is an extraordinary crime. Moreover, in the president’s future programmes, energy issues and energy security are national priorities that we must all support,” he stated. He also urged the Attorney General’s Office to remain solid and comply with all applicable legal processes regarding the investigation into the alleged money laundering and coal corruption case. “Therefore, once again we appeal to the TNI-Polri to be solid, including the prosecutors, to stand behind the Corruption Eradication Task Force investigators to uncover this case as clearly as possible,” he explained. Tandra called on law enforcement officials to work transparently and to impose the maximum possible punishment on all parties involved in the case. “And to provide information to the public and punish the perpetrators as severely as possible,” he concluded.
