House Commission III Urges Police to Investigate Rp1 Trillion Counterfeit Stamp Syndicate
House of Representatives Commission III has expressed appreciation for the success of Polda Metro Jaya, together with the Ministry of Finance’s Directorate General of Taxes, in dismantling a syndicate producing counterfeit stamps of enormous value.
The criminal operation, which produced millions of illegal stamps, is estimated to have the potential to cause state losses of up to Rp1 trillion.
In uncovering the case, the joint team seized evidence including 3.4 million counterfeit stamps, a printing machine with a capacity of 900,000 stamps per 10 days, and raw materials in large quantities.
The syndicate is estimated to have circulated four million counterfeit stamps, generating turnover of up to Rp40 billion.
“I appreciate the success of Polda Metro Jaya together with the Ministry of Finance in dismantling this counterfeit stamp production syndicate. Criminal practices like this truly harm the state, and at the same time the public is also harmed,” said Deputy Chairman of House Commission III from the PKB faction, Rano Alfath, in a statement on Thursday (20/8).
Counterfeiting stamps is not merely an ordinary document crime, but a serious violation that directly impacts state revenue.
Therefore, Rano urged the police not to stop at field executors, but also to uncover the entire distribution chain and the intellectual actors behind it.
“The police must thoroughly investigate this case and bring all perpetrators to court. If there is a larger network behind it, it must be completely dismantled,” said the PKB Deputy Chairman.
To prevent similar cases from recurring, Rano asked the government and law enforcement to tighten supervision of stamp circulation in the market.
Massive educational measures on how to distinguish genuine and counterfeit products are deemed urgent so that the public can avoid legal and material losses when conducting transactions.
“There needs to be massive public outreach on how to distinguish genuine and counterfeit stamps. If indications of counterfeit stamp circulation are found, immediately report them to the police. Public participation is very important,” he concluded.
