Jakarta - Chairman of House Commission III Habiburokhman has urged the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) to investigate the alleged coal corruption case and expose the perpetrators without fear or favour.

“This case must be thoroughly investigated within the corridor of precision, namely predictive, responsibility, transparency, fairness, and independence. Whoever is involved in this coal corruption must be held legally accountable,” he said during a press conference at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Thursday.

According to Habib, coal corruption not only causes significant state financial losses but also directly impacts the public, namely power outages in various regions. Commission III, he said, appreciates and fully supports Kortastipidkor in uncovering the case.

Meanwhile, Commission III member Soedeson Tandra called on all law enforcement officers, including the military, police, and prosecutors, to support the government’s programme in eradicating corruption. He stressed that corruption is an extraordinary crime.

“Moreover, in the president’s future programmes, energy security is a national priority that we must support together. Therefore, once again, we urge the military and police, including prosecutors, to stand solidly behind Kortastipidkor investigators,” he said.

Tandra also urged that all involved perpetrators be exposed. “It doesn’t matter if he is an official, a businessman, or an employee; high and low are all equal before the law, so we demand that this be enforced as firmly as possible,” he said.

Previously, a joint team from the National Police and Metro Jaya Police raided a café and a money changer in Cipete, South Jakarta, as part of an investigation into alleged corruption in coal supply involving state-owned enterprises PT PLN (Persero), PT Asabri (Persero), and PT Krakatau Steel.

The three cases concern power outages under the management of PT PLN (Persero); the alleged corruption case of Asabri and Jiwasraya for the 2020-2025 period; and alleged money laundering in the debt settlement process of PT CBS to PT KNI.

“Kortastipidkor together with Metro Jaya Police, in investigating the alleged corruption case, including bribery, gratification, and money laundering, are currently conducting simultaneous searches at several locations, including the current location at Cafe De’Klan and Koin Money Changer,” said Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in the Cipete area, Jakarta, Wednesday.

On the same day, police also raided a luxury house in the Sentul area, Bogor, West Java. From the search, officers seized 74 kilograms of gold bullion and foreign currency.
