House Commission III to Oversee Case of Sukabumi Boy Allegedly Killed by Stepmother
House of Representatives Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman has spoken out regarding the case of a teenager identified by the initials NS (12) in Sukabumi, who allegedly died as a result of abuse by his stepmother. Commission III has demanded the case be thoroughly investigated.
“Commission III of the House of Representatives strongly condemns the act of violence that resulted in the death of 12-year-old Nizam Safei,” Habiburokhman told reporters on Sunday (22/2/2026).
Habiburokhman stated that the perpetrator could be charged under Article 76C in conjunction with Article 80 of Law Number 35 of 2014 on Child Protection. Under these provisions, the perpetrator could face a prison sentence of up to 15 years.
Commission III also urged Sukabumi District Police to investigate the case meticulously. The allegation that the abuse inflicted on the victim was a recurring act could result in a heavier sentence for the perpetrator.
“We also urge Sukabumi District Police, as the investigating authority, to carefully examine whether the acts committed against young Nizam were sustained or not. If they were sustained, this would constitute an aggravating factor for the perpetrator of the abuse that led to Nizam Safei’s death,” he explained.
He added that Commission III would oversee the case through to the trial stage.
“We will continue to monitor this case through to trial so that the deceased and his family receive justice,” Habiburokhman said.
The victim, NS, is known to have died on Thursday (19/2). At the hospital before drawing his last breath, the victim reportedly stated that he had been forced to drink boiling water by his stepmother.
The case remains under investigation by Sukabumi District Police. No suspect has yet been named.
