Indonesia’s House of Representatives Commission III will hold a public opinion hearing (RDPU) to discuss the case of alleged sexual harassment by a preacher with the initials SAM. The alleged sexual harassment is said to have occurred from 2017 to 2025.

“On Thursday, 2 April, Commission III of the House of Representatives will hold a Public Opinion Hearing (RDPU) regarding the alleged sexual harassment case that occurred around 2017 to 2025, perpetrated by a ustaz who is also a judge in a Qur’an memorisation competition on television, with the initials Sheikh AM,” said Habiburokhman to reporters on Thursday (26/3/2026).

Habiburokhman stated that the meeting will feature representatives of the victims, from their legal representatives to the Director of Criminal Acts for the Protection of Women and Children at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency.

“In the RDPU, we will invite representatives of the victims, including their legal counsel, as well as the Director of Criminal Acts for the Protection of Women and Children and the Eradication of Human Trafficking at the National Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Agency,” he said.

This deputy chairman of Gerindra explained the identity of the preacher in question. He noted that the suspected perpetrator is often called ‘sheikh’.

“We need to clarify that the suspected perpetrator is not Ustaz Soleh Mahmud (Ustaz Solmed), nor Ustaz Syamsuddin Nur Makka (Ustadz Syam), as there has been much misunderstanding so far. So it is not those two, but someone who is usually called ‘Sheikh’,” he said.

Habiburokhman hopes that the law enforcement process for the case can reach a clear resolution. He wants the victims to receive true justice.

“We hope that the RDPU can accelerate the legal process against the perpetrator and bring justice to the victims as soon as possible,” he added.
