House Commission III Supports Police Investigation into Alleged Coal Corruption

Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission III, Habiburokhman, has expressed support for the Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) of the Indonesian National Police to investigate alleged corruption in coal procurement. He assessed that the case must be investigated thoroughly in accordance with the principles of Precision Police, namely being predictive, responsible, transparent, fair, and independent. “Whoever is involved in the coal corruption must be held legally accountable,” Habiburokhman stated in Jakarta on Thursday. He added that coal corruption not only causes very significant state financial losses but also results in power outages in various regions, causing hardship for the public. Previously, a joint team from the National Police and the Metro Jaya Regional Police seized a quantity of foreign currency, the amount of which is still being calculated, along with various important documents during a search at a café in the Cipete area of South Jakarta on Wednesday. The Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Regional Police explained that the search was related to the investigation of three major cases: alleged coal procurement corruption that triggered a total blackout by the state electricity company PLN, alleged corruption at PT Asabri, and PT Krakatau Steel. “It was concealed behind a cupboard; there was a safe and it was opened. It turns out there were several documents and a fantastic amount of money stored in Singapore Dollars and US Dollars,” he said. Police stated that searches were conducted at 12 different locations across Jakarta and its surrounding areas.
