House Commission III Supports Legal Action Against Police General in Free Nutritious Meal Corruption Case

Deputy Chairman of House Commission III Ahmad Sahroni has backed the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office in investigating alleged corruption in the governance of the Free Nutritious Meal programme, including legal action against police personnel suspected of involvement. Sahroni commended the police force’s commitment to not granting impunity to Brigadier General Lalu Muhammad Iwan, who has been named a suspect by the Attorney General’s Office in connection with alleged corruption in the programme’s management at the National Nutrition Agency for the 2025–2026 period. “I am 1,000 percent certain the National Police will not protect any member proven to be involved in wrongdoing, especially if they are caught up in the vortex of alleged corruption in the MBG programme. The principle must be the same: anyone suspected of involvement must be held accountable before the law,” Sahroni said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday. “There must be no special treatment simply because someone comes from a particular institution. So, the police’s move is correct as the frontline institution supporting this priority programme of President Prabowo,” he continued. He argued that the police’s support for the legal process is a crucial step to maintain accountability in the implementation of the MBG programme, while also strengthening public trust in law enforcement that does not discriminate based on the perpetrator’s institutional background. Sahroni also urged all ministries, agencies, and law enforcement bodies to undertake internal reforms and support efforts to eradicate corruption in the execution of this government priority programme. “All parties must unite to cleanse their respective institutions of individuals suspected of MBG corruption. If the Attorney General’s Office has investigated and arrested anyone based on sufficient evidence, no one should attempt to obstruct or intervene in the legal process. Follow the police’s example so that the future implementation of the MBG programme can be more effective, efficient, well-targeted, and truly beneficial for the recipient communities,” he stated. Previously, the Head of the National Police Public Relations Division, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, stated that the police respect and support the legal process undertaken by the Attorney General’s Office against Brigadier General Lalu Muhammad Iwan in connection with the alleged corruption in the MBG programme’s governance. He asserted there is no impunity for personnel proven to have committed criminal acts.
