The case of Amsal Christy Sitepu has finally concluded with his release. Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) was present and ensured that every process ran fairly and transparently.

Through Hearing Meetings (RDP) and General Hearing Meetings (RDPU), Commission III of DPR RI established several binding conclusions as a form of oversight over law enforcement. This commitment is proof that DPR RI continues to be present in fighting for justice, overseeing the law, and following up on public aspirations.

Commission III of DPR RI has requested a comprehensive evaluation of the handling of the case involving Amsal Christy Sitepu by the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office. This step is taken as part of the DPR’s oversight function regarding fair and accountable law enforcement.

The request is one of the conclusions recorded in the agenda of the Hearing Meeting (RDP) and General Hearing Meeting (RDPU) of Commission III DPR RI with prosecutorial elements and related parties. Chairman of Commission III DPR RI, Habiburokhman, emphasised that they have requested the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision to immediately conduct an evaluation of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office.

“Commission III DPR RI requests the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office that handled this case and to submit a written report within one month,” said Habiburokhman in the Commission III Meeting Room, Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 2 April 2026.

In the same forum, Commission III DPR also highlighted the alleged intimidation experienced by Amsal Sitepu in the case handling process. The DPR has requested law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate the allegation.

“Commission III DPR RI requests law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate the intimidation experienced by Mr Amsal Christy Sitepu,” he stated.

DPR RI also requested further investigation into other alleged violations by prosecutorial personnel, including the failure to implement the determination of the Medan District Court panel of judges in the case. “Commission III DPR RI requests the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision to investigate alleged violations by personnel of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, including the failure to implement the panel of judges’ determination,” said Habiburokhman.

This legislator from the Gerindra Party Faction also touched on allegations of efforts to build public opinion leading to accusations of DPR intervention in the legal process. Therefore, he emphasised the importance of maintaining objectivity in law enforcement.

To strengthen external oversight, Commission III DPR has requested the Indonesian Prosecutors’ Commission to conduct an examination of the case. “Commission III DPR RI requests the Indonesian Prosecutors’ Commission to conduct an examination of this case as material for a comprehensive evaluation of prosecutorial performance,” said the politician from the DKI Jakarta I electoral district.

He also emphasised the legal principle regarding acquittal decisions. Moreover, in the spirit of criminal procedure law reform, acquittal decisions cannot be subject to further legal remedies.

Through these recommendations, Commission III DPR RI has affirmed its commitment to ensuring that every law enforcement process runs professionally, transparently, and accountably. “Commission III DPR RI affirms that against acquittal decisions, no legal remedies can be pursued, whether appeals or cassation,” said Habiburokhman.
