House Commission III Says KPK Supervising FA Case

Chairman of House Commission III, Habiburokhman, has said that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is supervising the handling of the alleged corruption and money laundering case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah. “We have already stated that this case is being directly supervised by the KPK,” Habiburokhman said during a press conference at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Monday. The statement was made in response to a proposal by Mahfud MD, a Professor of Law at the Islamic University of Indonesia, who suggested the KPK take over the case. According to Habiburokhman, the KPK has the authority to take over case handling. However, the anti-corruption body has currently been asked to supervise the case handling process. “Yes, that is fine, please go ahead, the KPK has the authority,” he said. “It is the same thing, isn’t it? So, the KPK is conducting supervision,” he added. Previously, Mahfud MD, in a video uploaded to his personal YouTube channel, questioned the transfer of the case from the National Police to the Attorney General’s Office. He argued that the case handling mechanism needed to be straightened out so the KPK could take over. The National Police’s Corruption Eradication Task Force subsequently handed over the handling of the alleged corruption and money laundering case to the Attorney General’s Office. The head of the task force, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, said the transfer was based on an agreement between the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office as a form of synergy in law enforcement. Meanwhile, the Junior Attorney General for Supervision, who is also the Acting Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Rudi Margono, stressed that the Attorney General’s Office would handle the case professionally while upholding the presumption of innocence.
