JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has requested the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) to evaluate the entire staff of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) following the handling of the alleged corruption case against videographer Amsal Sitepu, who was ultimately acquitted.
Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman stated that the results of this evaluation are expected to be submitted by the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision of the Kejagung at the latest one month from now.
“Commission III of the DPR RI requests the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision to conduct a thorough evaluation of the staff of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office that handled the case Number 171/Pid.Sus-TPK/2025/PN Mdn in the name of Mr Amsal Christy Sitepu and to submit a written report on the results of this evaluation to Commission III of the DPR RI within one (1) month,” said Habiburokhman while reading the conclusions of the general hearing meeting (RDPU) at the DPR RI Building, Thursday (2/4/2026).
On that occasion, Commission III also highlighted alleged violations by certain members of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office due to propaganda in handling this case.
Habiburokhman emphasised that Commission III of the DPR RI requests the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision to also investigate these allegations.
“Commission III of the DPR RI requests the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision to investigate the alleged violations by certain members of the Karo District Prosecutor’s Office, namely the failure to implement the Ruling of the Medan District Court Panel Number 171/Pid.Sus-TPK/2025/PN Mdn and building propaganda as if Commission III of the DPR RI was intervening in the legal process of Mr Amsal Christy Sitepu’s case,” said Habiburokhman.
“Commission III of the DPR RI affirms that in handling Mr Amsal Christy Sitepu’s case, in accordance with the spirit of the new Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), no legal remedies can be pursued against an acquittal, whether appeal or cassation,” stated Habiburokhman.
It was previously reported that the Medan District Court panel handed down an acquittal verdict for Amsal Sitepu in the alleged corruption case involving the production of village profile videos in Karo Regency, on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
Presiding Judge Mohammad Yusafrihardi Girsang stated that Amsal was not proven guilty, either under the primary or subsidiary charges.
“Acquitting the defendant from all charges by the public prosecutor. Restoring the defendant’s rights in terms of ability, position, dignity, and honour,” said Judge Mohammad Yusafrihardi Girsang.
The case originated from Amsal’s work as a videographer through his company, CV Promiseland, in the project to produce village profile videos in Karo Regency during the period 2020 to 2022.
However, based on expert analysis and audit by the Inspectorate, the reasonable cost was estimated at around Rp 24.1 million per video.
