House Commission III Reminds Polri Education Must Respect Human Rights Values

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of House Commission III, Dede Indra Permana, has reminded that the curriculum applied in police education institutions must be based on respect for human rights (HAM) and democratic values, to create “Tribrata” individuals who are professional and of integrity.

He stated that the Polri Education and Training Agency (Lemdiklat) has a strategic role as the main foundation in shaping the quality of future Polri human resources. According to him, the transformation towards a Precise Polri must begin upstream, or in education.

“Through a training system that is not merely administrative, but also capable of producing outputs that are integrity-driven, professional, and possess high social sensitivity,” said Dede during a meeting with Lemdiklat Polri and the Rector of the Police Academy in the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Thursday.

He further emphasised that the curriculum based on HAM and democratic values must be truly internalised in the mindset and behaviour of the trainees. In particular, he said, police are now under public scrutiny, for example, in the controversy over the handling of a case experienced by the Sleman Police Chief some time ago.

“The Police Chief whom we previously invited, the Sleman Police Chief, where there was a member of the public (involved in a case) for defending themselves. This might be an emphasis for future Polri members,” he said.

To that end, he wants explanations of evaluations in Lemdiklat Polri’s work plans over the past year, starting from priority programmes including needs that are still required or unmet.

House Commission III, he said, wants to know the education system that has been built so far, related to planning, development, and implementation of education functions, formation, and development based on the types of Polri education, which include professional, managerial, academic, and vocational education in enhancing superior and quality Polri human resources towards a Precise Polri.
