House Commission III: Prabowo's Speech Reveals Progress in Corruption Eradication
The Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, assessed that the speech delivered by President Prabowo Subianto at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) revealed considerable progress made by the government in eradicating corruption. He noted that in the past year alone, the government has achieved significant asset recovery from corruption enforcement actions. “So much asset recovery has been carried out by law enforcers. That was the update,” Habiburokhman said after attending the MPR Annual Session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Friday.
Additionally, he is awaiting further details on the President’s proposal during the speech to establish an ad hoc court to investigate corruption cases, specifically to probe cases within State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN). He observed that the current court for corruption crimes is already ad hoc in nature, namely the Corruption Court (Tipikor), but he will wait for a more concrete proposal on the matter.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the President also addressed the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander and the National Police Chief regarding the issue of illegal mining. The President instructed both to cleanse their ranks of any personnel involved in these illicit activities. “Regarding rogue elements from these two institutions who may be involved in illegal tin mining issues,” Habiburokhman stated.
Earlier, the President proposed the formation of an ad hoc court to investigate alleged corruption involving the management or directors of various BUMNs over the past 30 years. He also offered amnesty to those who come forward and admit their mistakes. “I leave this to the people’s representatives to decide,” the President said.
