House Commission III: Police Bill Potentially Becomes Government Initiative
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission III, Ahmad Sahroni, stated that revisions to the Law on the Republic of Indonesia National Police (RUU Polri) have the potential to become a government initiative proposal. This is because the government has the Police Reform Acceleration Commission (KPRP), which has previously submitted recommendations to the National Police institution. The commission has reported its performance outcomes to President Prabowo Subianto. “If it’s like this, then it becomes a government initiative because there is a reform team,” Sahroni said in Jakarta on Wednesday. Additionally, he mentioned that the KPRP’s recommendation for the Polri to remain under the President is an appropriate step. He assessed that placing the Polri under a ministry is impossible. “It is already very appropriate that the Polri is under the President and the appointment system is also through the DPR,” he said. According to him, the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) must also be truly professional in overseeing the Bhayangkara Corps. He hopes that the Polri can truly continue to professionally protect society. The President received several books, including one titled “Bridge of Aspirations for Polri Reform” and “Follow-up on Recommendations”, as monitored in the Presidential Secretariat’s upload. The handover was also attended by members of the Police Reform Acceleration Commission, namely Ahmad Dofiri, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Otto Hasibuan, Supratman Andi Agtas, and Mahfud MD.
