House Commission III Opens Option to Form Special Committee on Acid Attack Against KontraS Activist Andrie Yunus

Commission III of the House of Representatives is opening the option to form a special committee (pansus) to investigate more deeply the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. That option will be discussed further in the plenary meeting of Commission III of the House of Representatives.

“Clearly, Commission III of the House of Representatives will hold a special plenary meeting regarding this issue, and what our stance will be. Then, before or after the plenary meeting, we need to summon them, whether the forum is called a pansus or a joint meeting. So there could be two possibilities,” said Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives Habiburokhman during a hearing with Andrie Yunus’s legal team at the House of Representatives building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Habiburokhman assured that Commission III of the House of Representatives will accommodate existing inputs related to the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. His side is committed to overseeing the law enforcement process in that case.

“So it’s not possible for us to make a decision right now, because there are already three conclusions, I think we’ve accommodated some of the aspirations of our friends here. Clearly, Commission III of the House of Representatives is committed to overseeing the enforcement of law and justice in this case until it is resolved,” said Habiburokhman.

Previously, the proposal to form a pansus was conveyed by a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Benny Utama, during the meeting. He stated that oversight related to this case must be carried out across sectors, as it involves partners from other commissions in the House of Representatives.

“There were 16 perpetrators detected in the presentation earlier. Perhaps this needs to be given input. And of course, the President’s statement could perhaps serve as a reference for us together,” said Benny in the meeting.

“And we in Commission III, I believe, Mr. Leadership, Mr. Chairman, from the beginning I’ve followed, Mr. Chairman, has paid great attention to this case,” he added.

He proposed that the House of Representatives form a pansus as oversight for the Andrie Yunus case. According to him, other House working bodies (AKD) such as Commission I, which partners with the TNI, to Commission XIII, which focuses on human rights issues, must be involved.

“And perhaps the last one, Mr. Chairman, because this might involve the TNI, perhaps there was a suggestion to involve other commissions through a pansus perhaps,” said Benny.

“Perhaps it becomes a thought, there is Commission I, Commission XIII perhaps Mr. Chairman, we Commission III perhaps this becomes our thought to uncover more broadly these involvements,” he added.

On that occasion, Chairman of YLBHI Muhamad Isnur encouraged the same thing. He hopes for a commitment from the House of Representatives to oversee this case.

“So I hope at least Commission III can encourage the government as well to jointly open up further who the intellectual actors are, so that what? So that something like this doesn’t happen again in the future,” said Isnur in the meeting.

Isnur hopes the House of Representatives can form a pansus or working group (panja) to oversee the Andrie Yunus case. He also wants intelligence oversight to be seriously audited.

“So, good steps whether panja or pansus we also hope for. And another function that was also raised yesterday, intelligence oversight. The Intelligence Law clearly mandates that the House of Representatives has oversight,” said Isnur.

“So I also hope that Commission III can continue to push for intelligence oversight to have a serious audit,” he added.
