House Commission III Invites Public to Submit Written Input on Asset Forfeiture Bill

Jakarta – Chairman of House Commission III Habiburokhman has opened an opportunity for members of the public who still wish to provide input on the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset).

Those wishing to submit input are asked to hand over their proposals in written form. This step was taken because the effective time available to Commission III to complete deliberations on the bill is increasingly limited.

“Because the remaining time is not very long, if there are still members of the public who wish to express their views, this can be done by submitting a written proposal,” Habiburokhman told reporters on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.

The Asset Forfeiture Bill is being prepared as a stronger legal foundation for the state to trace, seize, confiscate and manage assets linked to criminal offences. One of the aims of the legislation is to ensure that the proceeds of crime are not continuously enjoyed by perpetrators.

The Gerindra Party politician said the process of directly absorbing public aspirations carried out by Commission III has almost reached its maximum limit.

To date, Commission III has held 35 public hearing meetings (RDPU). In addition, the commission has carried out three working visits to the regions and received written input from dozens of community groups.

Habiburokhman said deliberations on the Asset Forfeiture Bill now have only about eight effective weeks remaining, once the House sitting period is calculated and the recess period is excluded from the calculation.

During those eight weeks of the sitting period, Commission III must complete a number of deliberation stages. The agenda includes public hearings, harmonisation, working meetings with the government, and discussion of the Problem Inventory List (DIM).

The next stage is the first-level approval of the bill. After that, the legislation is targeted to proceed to second-level approval through a House Plenary Session in December 2026.

According to Habiburokhman, the various inputs received have revealed a map of public views on the Asset Forfeiture Bill.

The majority of the public, he said, wants the bill to be passed immediately. However, that support is accompanied by a request that every provision in the legislation be drafted carefully.

“Most of the public strongly supports the establishment of the Asset Forfeiture Bill, and most of the public also supports the bill being drafted carefully so as to eliminate the potential for corruption within the fight against corruption, in the form of abuse of power by law enforcement officials,” he said.
