House Commission III Holds Meeting with Metro Police on Andrie Yunus Case

Indonesia’s House of Representatives Commission III held a hearing with Metro Jaya Regional Police, KontraS, and the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) regarding developments in the acid attack case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus on Tuesday (31/3).

“According to the attendance list, the quorum for factions has been met. I request that we declare this meeting open to the public. Agreed?” said Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman as he opened the meeting in the parliamentary complex.

He explained that the meeting began with a presentation from Metro Jaya Police on case developments, followed by presentations from Andrie’s legal representatives and spokesperson, and then in-depth discussions by Commission III members.

“This is not the first time we have held a meeting on this issue; it won’t end here. We’ve already had three meetings on the handling of the Andrie Yunus case. There have been two conclusions so far, and depending on the situation, we will continue to hold such meetings whenever there are developments,” he stated.

Previously, KontraS Deputy Coordinator for the Commission on Missing Persons and Victims of Violence, Andrie Yunus, was the victim of an acid attack in central Jakarta on Thursday night (12/3).

KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the incident occurred after Andrie Yunus attended a podcast event titled “Remilitarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office, around 23:00 WIB.

“He was attacked with acid splashing by unidentified persons (OTK), resulting in serious injuries across his body, particularly on his right and left hands, face, chest, and eye area,” he said in a written statement on Friday (13/3).

Recently, the TNI announced that it had secured four of its members suspected of carrying out the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, namely NDP, SL, BHW, and ES.

NDP holds the rank of captain. Meanwhile, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, and ES is a second sergeant.

The four are assigned to the Headquarters Detachment of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS), originating from the Navy and Air Force.

Meanwhile, Metro Jaya Police revealed two suspected perpetrators of the acid attack on Andrie, with initials different from those announced by the TNI’s Main Military Police.

According to Metro Jaya Police, the two suspects’ initials are BHC and MAK, with the possibility of more than two perpetrators.
