House Commission III Forms Working Committee to Monitor Andrie Yunus Case
A meeting of the House of Representatives Commission III on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, agreed to the formation of a working committee or panja to monitor the acid attack case against Kontras activist Andrie Yunus. The formed panja will serve as a bridge for Commission III to coordinate with law enforcement agencies, the victim’s lawyers, and the Witness and Victim Protection Agency.
“The Commission III House of Representatives Working Committee on the acid attack case against Mr Andrie Yunus will hold working meetings with the National Police, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency, and Mr Andrie Yunus’s legal representatives as a form of commitment in handling the enforcement of human rights protection,” said Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman at the House complex in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The decision was taken after factions approved the meeting conclusions, which lasted around 30 minutes. In the conclusions read by Habiburokhman, Commission III expressed appreciation to the National Police for uncovering the identities of two suspected attackers.
Regarding the suspected perpetrators from Indonesian National Armed Forces personnel, Commission III also requested that the Armed Forces and National Police collaborate to investigate the truth behind the Andrie case. The legal affairs commission suggested that the Armed Forces and National Police implement a connected court mechanism by referring to the provisions of Article 170 of Law Number 20 of 2025 on the Criminal Procedure Code.
“Commission III of the House of Representatives encourages the National Police and the Armed Forces to remain synergistic in handling the acid attack case against Mr Andrie Yunus,” said the Gerindra Party politician.
Commission III also requested that the Witness and Victim Protection Agency ensure the safety of Andrie and his family, as well as other Kontras members. Finally, Commission III urged the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to provide the best services for Andrie Yunus’s health recovery.
Previously, Andrie Yunus, who often criticised the TNI Law and the expansion of the military’s role in civilian spaces, was doused with acid while on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, 12 March 2026. Andrie was splashed with a dangerous solution by two unidentified individuals. The two rode a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction to Andrie.
The corrosive chemical liquid affected the right side of Andrie’s body, such as his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Part of the victim’s clothing also melted due to the acid. Medical examination results showed Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 percent of his body. Andrie is currently undergoing treatment at the National Central General Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM).
Metro Jaya Police identified the two liquid splashers with initials BHC and MAK. Photos of the two individuals were displayed during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the TNI Military Police Centre detained four members of the Armed Forces Strategic Intelligence Agency or BAIS TNI suspected of being involved in the attack on Andrie. The four have initials NDP, SL, BHW, and ES. According to TNI Military Police Centre Commander Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto, the perpetrators were directly handed over by the BAIS Headquarters Detachment to the TNI Military Police Centre on Wednesday morning, 18 March 2026.
