House Commission III Ensures National Criminal Code Aligns with Local Law Enforcement Realities
Pelaihari - A member of the House of Representatives Commission III, Machfud Arifin, stated that during every working visit, his team aims to ensure the National Criminal Code can operate in harmony with the realities of law enforcement in the regions.
“This is important for us to confirm; the National Criminal Code must not remain merely a policy at the central level but must run optimally in the field,” he said during a specific working visit to the Tanah Laut Police Resort in Pelaihari, South Kalimantan, on Monday.
He highlighted the major transformation in Indonesia’s legal world with the enactment of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the National Criminal Code, which will take effect on 2 January 2026.
He emphasised that the new Criminal Code is not merely a replacement of the law’s text but a shift in the legal paradigm from a colonial spirit to a law rooted in Indonesian values.
According to Machfud, Indonesia is moving towards a modern justice system that does not solely focus on punishment but prioritises corrective justice for perpetrators, rehabilitative justice for victims, and restorative justice for society.
He affirmed that the Tanah Laut Police Resort plays an important role in providing legal certainty to the community amid this regulatory transition period.
On that occasion, Machfud appreciated the success of the Tanah Laut Police Resort’s Narcotics Sub-Directorate in uncovering a narcotics case involving 1.1 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine with a value of more than Rp1.3 billion.
“This success is not just a statistic but real evidence that colleagues have saved more than 28,000 souls of the nation’s children in South Kalimantan. This is a strong message that there is no place for drug dealers in Tanah Laut,” said the former South Kalimantan Police Chief.
Machfud also motivated all police personnel to continue working with heart, maintaining solidarity, and tirelessly providing education to the community because prevention is considered far more valuable than enforcement.
Meanwhile, the Tanah Laut Police Chief, AKBP Ricky Boy Siallagan, stated that the visit by members of the House of Representatives Commission III is an honour and pride for the entire Tanah Laut Police Resort apparatus.
“The presence of Mr Machfud as a representative of the people from the South Kalimantan II electoral district provides us with an opportunity to convey many things to be brought to the centre, as Commission III oversees law, security, and supervision of Police performance,” he said.
