House Commission III Demands Swift Arrest of Security Guard's Killer at Jatiluhur Reservoir
Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) has highlighted the death of Sumarna (43), a security officer who was found drowned with his hands cuffed at Jatiluhur Reservoir in Purwakarta. Commission III is urging that the case be thoroughly investigated.
“Investigate it thoroughly,” said Sahroni, Deputy Chair of Commission III, to journalists on Thursday (30/7/2026).
Sahroni also urged officers to arrest the perpetrators, saying the incident could not be tolerated.
“The perpetrators must be arrested and punished severely, because they committed an atrocity that can no longer be tolerated — this is truly barbaric,” he said.
The NasDem politician said an evaluation of security at vital facilities was needed, stressing that the incident must not be repeated.
“There needs to be an evaluation, and vital facilities must truly be guarded properly and kept safe from those who commit crimes, like what happened to the late security guard. It must not happen again,” he said.
Echoing this view, Commission III member Nasir Djamil expressed confidence that the suspects could be swiftly arrested and brought to trial. He said whatever the suspects’ motive, it could not be justified.
“Whatever the perpetrators’ reasons and motives, such a vicious killing cannot be justified. Moreover, the victim died while still wearing his duty uniform,” he said.
“If it is true that the murder was allegedly committed by a motorcycle gang, then this is the right moment for the West Java government and the local police to bring order to and rehabilitate motorcycle gang members within their jurisdiction,” he added.
Sumarna was found dead on the edge of the lake in the Tanggul Ubrug area, Purwakarta Regency, West Java, on Friday (24/7) at midday. When found, the victim, still dressed in his full duty uniform, was in a grim condition with both hands cuffed behind his back.
Police are still investigating the case and have already held a case review.
West Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Pipit Rismanto has given his attention to the suspected murder of the security guard whose body was found with hands cuffed at Jatiluhur Reservoir. Pipit deployed a joint team from the West Java Regional Police to assist the Purwakarta District Police.
“Yes, Purwakarta — this is in process. We have ordered our personnel, including the Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, to be involved,” Pipit told the media at West Java Regional Police Headquarters, as reported by detikJabar on Wednesday (29/7).
