House Commission III Demands Chemical Castration for Perpetrator of Abuse and False Imprisonment in Bandung
A member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Abdullah, has urged law enforcement officials to impose chemical castration on Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the kidnapping, false imprisonment, and abuse of a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung, West Java. He stated that the crime committed by the suspect is classified as severe because it lasted a long time and deprived the victim of her freedom. “This crime is not just ordinary abuse; it is an act that deprives freedom and repeatedly destroys the victim’s dignity over a long period. The perpetrator deserves chemical castration,” Abdullah told reporters on Wednesday (24/6). The politician from the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction believes that severe punishment must be considered to provide a deterrent effect while protecting the public from the potential for similar crimes in the future. Abdullah highlighted the confession of the suspect’s ex-wife, who claimed to have experienced violence. This finding, according to him, indicates a recurring pattern of behaviour that endangers women. “The fact that the perpetrator allegedly committed violence against his ex-wife shows a dangerous behavioural pattern. Chemical castration is not only a form of punishment but also an effort to protect the public, especially women, from the potential threat of the perpetrator in the future,” he said. In addition to pushing for the maximum penalty, Abdullah asked the police to thoroughly investigate all alleged acts of violence committed by the suspect. He also urged the West Java Regional Police to open a special complaint post to accommodate the possibility of other victims who have not yet dared to report. “This step is important to trace the perpetrator’s overall pattern of violence. If there are other victims who have not dared to speak up, the state must be present to provide full protection, both legally and through psychological assistance,” he said. Previously, Taufik Hidayat (30), the suspect in the false imprisonment and abuse case against YTR (29), a woman from Rancaekek, Bandung Regency, was arrested by police after being placed on the wanted list (DPO). Taufik was arrested in the Majalaya area, Bandung Regency, on Tuesday (23/6) evening. The arrest ended the authorities’ pursuit after the suspect was said to have frequently moved locations to avoid capture. The case drew public attention after YTR was found with severe injuries and underwent treatment at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung. The victim is believed to have suffered false imprisonment and abuse for approximately three years.
