House Commission III Condemns Sheikh Ahmad for Allegedly Abusing Students: Manipulation of Religion
Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry (SAM) has been designated as a suspect in the case of alleged harassment against students. The Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Commission III, Habiburokhman, has strongly condemned the actions of Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry.
“The alleged sexual violence committed by Sheikh AM is utterly outrageous. That person manipulated religion for his depraved behaviour,” Habiburokhman told reporters on Saturday (25/4/2026).
Habiburokhman expressed pity for the victims. He stated that the victims are greatly suffering due to Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry’s behaviour.
The House of Representatives’ Commission III, explained Habiburokhman, has received numerous complaints regarding Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry’s behaviour. He hopes that Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry can be promptly detained in Indonesia.
“Next, we must go all out to ensure that person is brought in and immediately detained in Indonesia,” he clarified.
Habiburokhman appreciated the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the National Police Headquarters (Dit PPA PPO Bareskrim) for carrying out their duties well. “We greatly respect them,” said Habiburokhman.
Designated as Suspect for Harassment
It is known that Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry has been designated as a suspect in the case of alleged harassment against students. This suspect designation was made after investigators conducted a case review related to the report.
“Based on the implementation of the case review by investigators based on police report number: LP/B/586/XI/2025/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri dated 28 November 2025, the investigators have designated Mr SAM as a suspect,” said the Head of Public Information of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, to reporters on Friday (24/4).
Based on statements from the victims’ legal representative, Benny Jehadu, Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry often appears on television as a judge for Quran memorisation competitions. This indecent act case has more than one victim.
“The current victims for our clients number five, as we have clearly stated that this is a case of sexual harassment not against girls, but against males, same-sex, with some underage and some adults,” explained Benny Jehadu.
The alleged illegal actions are believed to have been ongoing for quite some time, spanning years. The locations of the incidents during the police examination are also said to have occurred in several different places.
“For the timing, it’s around 2017, so there are several victims at different times. Some in 2017, 2018, up to 2025. But the times vary,” concluded another victims’ legal representative, Wati Trisnawati.
Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry Speaks Out
Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry has spoken out regarding the case of alleged harassment against students. In a video uploaded to his Instagram account, Ahmad recounted that since 15 March he travelled to Egypt to accompany his mother.
“I, Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry, departed for Egypt on 15 March 2026 and arrived in Egypt on 16 March 2026 to accompany my mother who was ill and underwent surgery on 17 March 2026,” he said.
Ahmad stated that he only received the police summons on 30 March 2026. He also mentioned that at that time he was summoned by the police as a witness.
“So the police summons came after I had been in Egypt for about 15 days. I thank the National Police Headquarters, the investigators who gave me the opportunity to provide testimony online,” he said.
“And this police summons was as a witness, not as a suspect as imagined or disseminated by many people. Secondly, the accusation of harassment against students is not true,” Ahmad continued.
He asked that the circulating information be verified first. Ahmad also handed over the alleged harassment case to his legal representatives.
“So please verify because the evidence I have has been submitted to my legal representatives to hand over to the authorities, and there are also witnesses,” he said.
He regretted the ustazs who disseminated the information. He also considered the circulating information as slander.
“And I ask the ustadzs who spread that information, or slander, or accusation, to produce even one video. I issue a fatwa accordingly. By Allah, I have never issued a fatwa on such matters and this is a very cruel slander disseminated on many social media platforms,” he said.
Ahmad also alluded to several parties who claim to know him. According to him, those people have never met or communicated directly.
