Jakarta — House Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman has condemned an acid attack against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

According to Habiburokhman, the assault constitutes more than ordinary criminal conduct requiring investigation by law enforcement authorities.

“We are deeply concerned and firmly denounce the acid attack because it is not merely ordinary criminality but a crime against democracy,” Habiburokhman stated at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

He emphasised that the matter cannot conclude merely with the arrest of the perpetrators; it must extend to the intellectual authors who ordered it.

“House Commission III requests the National Police to thoroughly investigate the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus swiftly, transparently and professionally, and immediately identify and apprehend all those involved—whether in planning, ordering, execution or assistance—in accordance with applicable law,” Habiburokhman declared.

The terror attack, Habiburokhman stressed, obstructs the human rights protection agenda currently being pursued by the government.

“House Commission III affirms that the acid attack against Andrie Yunus represents a form of resistance or opposition to President Prabowo’s administration’s commitment to maximise the protection, advancement and fulfilment of human rights in support of the legislative functions mandated to House Commission III as outlined in the Asta Cita,” Habiburokhman said.

The assault resulted in burn injuries across multiple parts of Yunus’s body, including his eyes, face, chest and hands. According to initial diagnosis by medical staff at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, the victim suffered burns covering approximately 24 per cent of his body.

Following the attack, Andrie Yunus has been admitted for intensive care at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.
