House Commission III Backs AGO Handling of Former Jampidsus Corruption Case

The Chairman of House Commission III, Habiburokhman, has stated that the commission supports and agrees with the handling of the alleged corruption case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Febrie Adriansyah, being handed over to the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). He believes the Adhyaksa Corps has the independence to examine even its own former senior officials. “We believe that even though they are examining their own colleagues, their guidance will still be the law and justice,” Habiburokhman said at the Parliament Complex on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. Today, Commission III held an impromptu meeting with its working partners, including the National Police, the AGO, and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). The meeting was held in the Pustaloka Room of the Parliament Complex. Habiburokhman explained that the meeting was conducted to minimise friction between institutions. “The National Police Chief and the Attorney General are good people. We care about these two institutions and do not want any friction,” said the Gerindra Party politician. Former Jampidsus Febrie Ardiansyah has been named a corruption suspect in three cases: the alleged corruption at PT Asabri, PT Krakatau Steel, and irregularities in coal supply procurement. The Head of the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, stated that the suspect designation was made after investigators conducted a series of inquiries, including examining witnesses and experts and holding case exposés. Although initially handled by the National Police, Febrie’s case has been transferred to the AGO. Today, the police handed over the case files for Febrie and another suspect, Don Ritto, to the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes. Previously, calls for the case to be handled by the KPK were voiced by the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) and former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud Md. YLBHI Chairperson Muhammad Isnur stated that according to legal provisions, the case should be handled by the KPK, not transferred from the police to the AGO. “Handling by the KPK is necessary to close off any space for conflicts of interest and intervention, and to ensure independence so the case can be brought to light,” Isnur said via WhatsApp message on Tuesday, 14 July 2026. He added that the transfer of Febrie’s case from the police to the AGO sets a bad precedent for law enforcement in the country, as it has the potential to damage the prevailing legal system and create legal uncertainty and a loss of public trust. Isnur explained that neither the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) nor Law Number 30 of 2002 in conjunction with Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the KPK recognises a mechanism for transferring corruption cases between law enforcement agencies. “To overcome this problem, the existence of the KPK as an independent and high-integrity institution in handling corruption cases within law enforcement institutions is absolutely necessary,” he said. He further explained that Article 10A of the KPK Law explicitly grants the anti-corruption commission the authority to take over investigations or prosecutions of corruption cases being handled by the police or the prosecutor’s office. Similarly, Mahfud Md. proposed that the KPK take over Febrie’s case. “It would be better if the KPK, in accordance with its authority, takes over this case,” Mahfud was quoted as saying from a video on his YouTube channel on Monday, 13 July 2026.
